Helicopter Hoist Rescue Training

The SR3 training staff specializes in helicopter hoist rescue operations in both day and night (NVG) conditions. All training is tailored for the customer and will provide the most current information, procedures and techniques for performing human hoist operations. Our curriculum supports basic and advanced SAR mission operations for government and law enforcement agencies, commercial operators, military and helicopter original equipment manufacturers.

Helicopter human hoist operation (HHO) training includes:

  • Review of aircraft safety procedures
  • Fall protection and restraint requirements
  • Aircraft cabin rigging
  • SAR mission planning
  • Hazard identification
  • Emergency procedures
  • Litter hoist operations
  • Insertion and extrication devices and harnesses
  • Correct use of taglines with weak link
  • Hoist rescue pre-flight inspection
  • Usage of checklists for both SAR personnel and pilots
  • Single insertions and extraction techniques
  • Double up extraction techniques
  • Litter and rescue bag extractions with tagline
  • Litter and rescue bag extractions with attendant

Light Helicopter Rescue Training

SR3 instructors all have an extensive background in light helicopter mountain rescue operations in both day and night conditions. Our training program is specific to each customer and designed to support basic and advanced SAR mission operations for government and law enforcement agencies, commercial operators, and utility companies.

Light helicopter rescue training includes:

  • Review of aircraft safety procedures
  • Fall protection and restraint requirements
  • Aircraft cabin rigging
  • Correct SAR mission planning
  • Hazard identification
  • Confined area operations
  • Emergency procedures
  • One skid insertion and extraction
  • Toe in insertion and extraction
  • Litter loading
  • Short haul (HEC) single, double and single rescuer with litter

The training provided by SR3 exceeds the requirements of FAA part 133 Class B/D Human External Cargo, Transport Canada (CARS 722), Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CAO 29.11) and European Aviation Safety Authority SPA.100 Human Hoist Operations. This training program will prepare aircrews assigned to perform duties on board a helicopter, or personnel who are carried externally by a helicopter to be competent to conduct both Human Hoist and Human External Cargo Operations in a safe and effective manner.

In addition to the above training programs, SR3 also provides assistance with helicopter human external cargo (HEC) FAA CFR part 133 certification and compliance.
